Golem and Dybbuk: New Works by Jessica Riva Cooper
Closing Reception with InterPlay Group Improvisation facilitated by Pam Swing and CC King

When: Thursday, May 19, 2011, 7-8:30 p.m.
Where:Women’s Studies Research Center, Brandeis University 515 South Street, Waltham, MA

Cooper’s original, site-specific installation offers a feminist perspective on Yiddish stories of the Golem and the Dybbuk. In Cooper’s revised tales, the woman artist replaces the male rabbi as Creator, and a hybrid of the golem and dybbuk spirits becomes a layer of empowerment that women sew onto themselves for strength or protection. At intervals during the reception, Pam Swing and CC King will lead an InterPlay group improvisation inspired by Cooper’s exploration of the boundary between the human and the fantastical.

InterPlay is a creative community process using movement, vocalizations and stories that emerge spontaneously in the moment. Attendees will be invited to participate, if they would like, but are also welcome to watch.

Pam Swing, Ph.D. will be a Visiting Scholar at the Women’s Studies Research Center beginning fall 2011. She is deeply interested in how we access and sustain creativity, both for her own art practice and as an offering to others.

CC King, M.A. is a certified InterPlay leader, trainer and Boston-area coordinator. She facilitates and explores creatively accessing our body wisdom with movement, sound and stillness. She is a visual artist, teacher and community activist. More at interplay.org.

FREE and open to the public. For more information, contact Pam.

SoulPlay: Tending our soul through Interplay and SoulCollage® (for men and women)
with CC King and Pam Swing

Join CC King and Pam Swing in a two-hour workshop that explores the exciting interface between the intuitive practices of SoulCollage and Interplay. Interplay is a creative community process using movement, vocalizations and stories that emerge spontaneously in the moment. SoulCollage is personal spiritual art form using collaged images. Combining SoulCollage with Interplay creates a rich experiential mix of movement, imagery, and words that can yield new insights and awareness. CC and Pam will guide participants in ways of nurturing our whole body spirit through a blend of these two intuitive practices. For this workshop, you will use your own SoulCollage cards (we will not be making new cards), or draw from images that are provided. Previous experience in Interplay or SoulCollage is not necessary, but some experience with one of them is helpful.

When: Thursday, June 9th, 1:00 to 3:00 pm
Where: Luminosity Studio, Concord, MA (directions sent with registration)
Cost: $20.00
Register: contact Pam. Pay by Paypal or check

Tending Your Inner Garden
A retreat for women in Maine

“Within you there is a stillness and sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.”
-Hermann Hesse

What might happen if you gave yourself several days of down time near the ocean in the relaxed company of other women? As a group and on our own, we will tend our inner garden through SoulCollage®, labyrinth walks and silence. Our time together will be playful, for it is through play that our innate rhythms can recalibrate. We will listen deeply to each other’s stories in sacred circle and linger over delicious meals. There will be time to lean into solitude in nature by the ocean. I invite you to join me at my beautiful yurt on the St. George Peninsula!

When: Friday 2:00 pm Aug. 19 to Monday 11:00 am, Aug. 22, 2011
Where: Blue Moon Yurt, Tenants Harbor, ME
Cost: $360.00, includes lunches and dinners.
Lodging: arranged separately; contact Pam for area b&bs
Register: email Pam
More info: contact Pam or call 978 371 0323. Space is limited, so register early. Local women are welcome to attend on a nonresidential basis—please contact Pam to discuss.
